Shoe cabinet with mirror: for which entryway and what use

Full-height mirror, mirror above a low cabinet, mirror concealing storage: sizes and criteria to check before choosing.
Shoe cabinet with mirror: for which entryway and what use

A shoe cabinet with a mirror combines two things you do before heading out anyway: put on your shoes and check your outfit. In an entryway where every wall is already occupied by a door, light switch, or radiator, this combination saves you from installing a separate mirror. You still need to choose the right size depending on the available space and intended use.

What a mirror adds to an entryway

The first role of a mirror is obvious: it serves your final check before heading out the door. A full-length mirror allows you to check your entire outfit, shoes included, which a small wall mirror cannot do.

The second role is lighting. In an entryway without a window, the mirror reflects light from the home toward the door and visually enlarges the space. The effect is enhanced when the cabinet is light-colored: on a white shoe cabinet with a mirror, the color and reflective surface complement each other.

The third role is saving wall space. A single piece of furniture takes the place of two, which matters in an already crowded hallway. It is also a way to get a coordinated set with matching finishes, without having to search for a matching mirror afterward.

The three sizes of shoe cabinets with mirrors

The first size is a column with a built-in full-height mirror. The black shoe cabinet with a mirror, coat rack, and bench thus combines a hanging area, a shoe cabinet, a full-height mirror, and a bench in a single piece. Its adjustable shelves can be repositioned according to the height of the shoes, from tall ankle boots to ballet flats.

The second size is the compact cabinet with a built-in mirror. The white shoe cabinet with a mirror, drawers, and hooks combines a door, two drawers, ten compartments, four hooks, and a mirror, with a depth of 35 cm. This is the right size for narrow entryways, where every centimeter of depth takes away from the walkway.

The third size combines a low shoe cabinet with a mirror placed on top. Our models measuring 40 to 68 cm high, such as the brown shoe cabinet with glass doors, leave the wall free for a mirror or frame. Some entryway furniture goes even further, such as the wooden set that combines a shoe cabinet, a panel with six coat hooks, and a mirror.

Criteria to check before choosing

First, measure the available depth. A 35 cm cabinet leaves enough room to walk through a narrow hallway, where a deeper model would obstruct the opening of the door. Our article on shoe cabinet depth provides guidelines based on the width of the hallway.

If the model includes a bench, check its height and weight capacity. The white lacquered shoe cabinet with a mirror and bench offers a seat at 42 cm, the standard height for putting on shoes, with a static weight capacity of 120 kg. Its lower compartments hold six to ten pairs.

Finally, a tall cabinet with a mirror must be anchored to the wall. The weight of the mirror is concentrated in the upper part, and an unanchored column could tip over if you pull on a door or hook. Install a wall anchor during assembly.

In summary: a column with a full-height mirror to combine a coat rack, shoes, and seating; a compact, shallow cabinet for narrow hallways; a low cabinet topped with a mirror for greater flexibility. In all cases, measure the depth, check the seat height, and anchor any tall cabinet to the wall.
